This Branch Vase is made from a branch end that had been sitting for so long the pith (pith is the center wood in any log or branch) had rotted away, but the outer edge with the bark remained in tack and had dried. On one end the bark had healed over the end while the tree was still alive. This was the end I flattened and added a Maple base for mounting to the lathe and to act as the base to this project. The bark was removed to expose the highly figured wood underneath. The interior was hollowed as much as possible without compromising the integrity of the piece. This one stands at a tall 11 inches and is 8 inches wide. The base is solid Maple so it is a heavier vase. I am not sure of the wood species that the branch is from.
